For David Soderstrom, the benefits were almost too many to count.
Move his plastics business, Bainbridge Manufacturing Inc., from Kitsap County to Douglas County and have access to one of the lowest electricity rates in the country, high-speed Internet access, buildings to choose from, and a rural environment that fit his lifestyle.
It didn't take long for Soderstrom to be sold — and for Waterville to become home to his company, which designs plastic hardware for cabinets, closets and furniture.
"My children walk three blocks to school and I can see the beautiful night sky and stars almost every night. There is no pollution and no noise at night," Soderstrom says. "Our shipping costs have been dramatically reduced due to the nature of our products and the competitiveness of the local shipping companies.
"Nobody in my family or the families that moved with my company ever expected to have such a huge increase in our quality of life. Lastly, we have hired our new crew from the local area and these people have the highest work ethics you can imagine."
